GIS Developer

My name is Abdul Basit, I am a GIS expert. I am working on GIS national and international projects. I have 4 years of experience in this field.

I have a degree in Business Administration and I am a self taught programmer (R, Python, C++) and data analyst. Besides using R, Python for data processing and analysis I am capable of working with satellite imagery (Sentinel, MODIS, VIIRS) and I can perform image segmentation, object detection and classification in both regular images and remote sensing data using deep learning frameworks

My background is in Physical Oceanography. At the moment I am with the Institute of Marine Sciences of the Spanish Research Council. My main interest is related to the retrieval of wind and sea state from microwave active sensors such as SARs, scatterometers and GNSS-R. In the past I did work in the retrieval of the thermodynamic state of the atmosphere and tropospheric minor and trace gases such as O3, CO2, CH4, N2O from satellite hyperspectral radiance measurements.

I hold a master in Environmental Engineering and a PhD. in Environmental Engineering. I am a full professor of Hydrology. I was a postdoctoral fellow at Federal University of Alagoas (Institute of Atmospheric Sciences) and Federal University of Campina Grande in Brazil. My main research field is satelite-based large-scale drought monitoring and satelite-based enviromental monitoring. I have experience in processing gridded datasets in different formats (e.g. GeoTIFF and netcdf) with R - RStudio.

Bachelor degree in Environmental Engineering at Medellin University 2006 and an MSc degree in Environmental and Geomatics Engineering at Politecnico di Milano in 2012. Lecturer at San Buenaventura University in Colombia since 2007 till 2017, working and teaching in the fields of environmental planning and Geographical Information Systems GIS. PhD in Environmental and Infrastructure Engineering at the Hydroinformatics Lab Politecnico di Milano on May 2017. My work activity is focused on Spatial Data Infrastructures SDI, architecture and design of Geographic Information Systems and Geospatial Web Services, Environmental Big Geo-data and Free and Open Source Software for Geospatial Applications FOSS4G. Charter member of OSGeo organization and a member of the organizing committee of FOSS4G Europe 2015.
